Where I Stand

The following is not intended to be an exhaustive list of my beliefs.  Nor is it intended to serve as a creed, for I have no creed but Christ.  Rather, I hope it will provide some perspective as to my philosophical orientation.  Peter wrote, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:" (I Peter 3:15).  This is, in part, what I believe and what I am ready to defend.

I  believe:

God, the God you read about in the Bible, exists.

God created the world in six literal days (24-hour periods).

The world is approximately six thousand years old.

God created man in his own image and man is therefore unique and special among all God’s creatures.

God destroyed the world by a universal deluge because of man's sinfulness.

God will ultimately destroy the world and judge mankind for its sinful deeds.

Jesus of Nazareth was born of a virgin in fulfillment of prophecy.

Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

Jesus performed miracles while He was in the world.

Miraculous gifts ceased to be given when New Testament revelation was completed.

Jesus died, was buried, and arose from the grave on the third day.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is a historical fact.

The Bible is the inspired, inerrant word-revelation of God to man.

God’s word is without self-contradiction.

The King James Version is the best  English version of the Bible available today.

The church of Christ is the only institution in which salvation from sin is found.

Denominationalism is sinful and repugnant in God's sight.

Man is saved from his sin when he hears God's word, believes its message that Jesus is the Christ, repents of his sin, confesses Christ and is baptized for the remission of his sins.

Only faithful members of the church of Christ will be saved.

The God-head is comprised of three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit operates only through the word in conviction, conversion, and sanctification.

The book of Revelation was written before A.D. 70 and largely deals with the destruction of Jerusalem.

If you have any questions about any of these statements or about a subject not addressed in the list please feel free to ask me about them. All too often individuals become defensive when asked about what they believe.  I assure you that this will not be the case if you choose to ask me about what I believe.  --ELP
